A 40-minute helicopter ride from Nadi, Royal Davui is one of the Fijian archipelago's tinier islands (just eight acres at high tide). Each of the 16 multilevel vales, or villas, has two outdoor decks, a bathroom ceiling that can be electronically opened, and a stone plunge pool. Lush paths wind past white sand beaches and among the restaurant, bar, library, and 60-foot pool. Water toys include powerboats, kayaks, and, for those wanting to dive the magnificent Beqa Lagoon, scuba gear (instruction available). There are other treats—the sand quay picnic is a must—but the real triumph is the 50-plus staff, whose sole aim is to treat everyone royally.
When to go: July through October, to avoid the humid wet season.
