The 78-room Style Hotel has a lot to recommend it, from an exceptionally well-drilled staff to an excellent Italian restaurant (in case you get schnitzel fatigue). The masculine decor (think oversized beige leather headboards, fat down comforters, and dark-wood built-ins) is relaxing if rather generic. Some details delight—raiding the minibar won't cost you a penny—while others disappoint: robotic front-desk staff and no bathtub. Location is everything: A good portion of the city's best museums and finest shopping are minutes away, and the comfort factor here is deep-dish Mitteleuropa despite the self-conscious desire to be hip.
When to go: May is romantic, with its lilacs and flowering chestnut trees, while December is animated.
Which room to book: Sixth-floor doubles that don't overlook the noisy Herrengasse (doubles, $260–$319).
