LOOKING FOR LISTS FROM OTHER YEARS?
The award-winning Ananda in the Himalayas spa resort ("Hot List," May 2001) has opened a new outpost, Shanti Ananda Maurice, on 35 tropical-garden acres at Mauritius's southern tip. Most of the 55 elegantly appointed rooms face the Indian Ocean, taking in the unbroken horizon, and all have balconies or private gardens and bathtubs complete with head pillows. The 50,000-square-foot spa offers a hefty menu of treatments covering global philosophies from Ayurveda to thalassotherapy, carried out by therapists trained at the original Ananda in India. Days start with sunrise yoga or a workout in the glass gym surrounded by jungle foliage, and then there's aqua exercise, golf, tennis, surfing, nature treks, and dolphin watching, but most guests can be found lounging around the two pools and on the cushioned seaside chaise longues until the sun sets.
