The phrase "drop-dead views" takes on new meaning as you pitch backward on the golf cart ride up the steep hills to your villa, one of 30 dotted along a hillside on Anse Louis. Once you pick your way across the lava path to your thatched-roof compound, you'll have only two reasons to leave: to be gently pummeled by Bali-trained masseuses in the open-air spa pavilions, or to try the inventive French fusion cuisine at the beach restaurant, Tec Tec. Expansive villas include a long veranda, a glass-walled garden shower, and a private infinity pool that's 12 strokes long, as well as a personal butler who will even rinse and artfully arrange shells that you may have picked up while beachcombing. Designer Bill Bensley's understated interiors, with their cream colors and notched wood floors, leave the drama to nature: At night, sitting in the outdoor bathtub, you can watch the moon illuminating the ink-black sea.
