A stay at the Abbaye de la Bussière suggests that monastic life isn't so bad after all. The setting alone is divine—an idyllic village in Burgundy with canals and poplars. Its three sitting rooms are ideal for contemplating a glass of the local vintage, which the pleasant staff can obtain for you. As with any respectable French country hotel, this one comes with a Michelin-star restaurant (featuring a $110 seven-course degustation menu) and a casual bistro. Since both dining rooms feel somber, get a table on the terrace overlooking the immaculate gardens.
