Promising "all the comforts of a club without the dues," PSC serves up classic cocktails in a former barracks on the edge of the Presidio, a former military base in the city's northwestern quadrant. White-coated bartenders, glass-and-metal storage cabinets, and bare lightbulbs suggest a turn-of-the-century apothecary, but the potions mixed at the 45-foot marble bar are far from medicinal. The drinks menu favors gin and brandy, omits neon-colored liqueurs, and has three variations on the Manhattan.
