Cappadocia has no lack of quirky cave accommodations, but the Serinn House is the region's first with a strong design sensibility. From the outside, this complex of three small buildings made of blocks of local stone almost disappears against the steep cliffs that rise behind it. But the hotel's modern interiors—think the Jetsons meet the Flintstones—have an appealing effect against the rough rock walls. In room No. 5, a black chandelier from the Dutch design company Moooi floats over a sculptural red Ron Arad chair and a black four-poster bed, while No. 4 pops with a brightly hued geometric-patterned rug and a light-blue Vitra chair. Equally cheerful is the owner Eren Serpen, who, with her friendly dog, is always on hand to suggest great restaurants or to book the best local guide. Breakfast is especially gratifying: a freshly baked fruit pie or warm focaccia bread served along with local cherries and apricots, Turkish yogurt, soft cheeses, and muesli. If that doesn't fill you up, the cook will gladly prepare eggs any style.
