On the ground floor of Hamilton House, one of the city's most famous Deco buildings, this restaurant has dark wood tables and dove-gray velvet chairs that recall the glamour of a grand ocean liner. Here you'll find Shanghai's best steak as well as velvety carrot velouté, peppery salads, and perfectly pink breast of duck. Other pluses: a window that looks directly on the chefs preparing your food, the balcony with little armchairs for a private chat before dinner, and the strangely sexy two-way mirror in the powder room that allows bar patrons to watch as you reapply your lipstick(entrées, $12–$33).
