One of the latest in the grand tradition of previously dubious neighborhoods reinventing themselves, Copenhagen's former meatpacking district is now the place to go for avant-garde art and stellar food. The epicenter of cool is Karriere, a restaurant-lounge owned by Danish artist Jeppe Hein. Works by more than 30 international artists are on display, and there are regular concerts and lectures. But even culture vultures have to eat, and Karriere keeps them well fed: The wide-ranging menu has Asian-influenced dishes like steamed scallops with sesame-chili seaweed salad and fried duck breast atop noodles, apple, and beetroot, plus brasserie classics and homegrown noshes such as puffed rice noodles and dip (entrées, $40–$46).
