At the Tierra Atacama Hotel & Spa, Uma Spa draws upon Andean meltwater aquifers that lie beneath San Pedro, a crossroads for South America's Altiplano peoples since ancient times. Catwalks over plots of quinoa and corn lead to the spa's four treatment rooms–4,300 square feet of bamboo roof, adobe, and regional Talabre stone. Treatments combine local herbs, desert salts, and volcanic muds—most elaborately in the three-hour Desert Ritual ($240), a body wrap, herbal bath, and volcanic-stone massage (massages, $55–$110).
