LOOKING FOR LISTS FROM OTHER YEARS?
820 N. Rampart St.
504-324-6045
What: Artisanal-cocktail emporium and sister bar to uptown's Delachaise, on edgy North Rampart Street, right at the top of the French Quarter. Only juices squeezed on the premises and homemade tonic are mixed with the impressive arsenal of spirits and bitters.
The look: Boozers sit around a large square bar that dominates the main room (which has exposed brick walls, red paneling, and a few white leather sofas) or hide out in a nook.
Who goes: Discerning drinkers from the neighborhood, bartenders and chefs after hours, and no tourists.
Sound track: Catchy pop of the Peter, Bjorn, and John variety changes to hard rock like Social Distortion in the early hours.
What to wear: Cute dresses and flats for girls; a shirt, jeans, and Chuck Taylors for boys.
What to drink: A Whisky Kiss (with rye, Benedictine, gin, Chartreuse, and bitters), or ask the ebullient, tattooed mixologist Matthew Palumbo for his recommendations.
Door policy: Easy, no cover; you won’t even be asked for I.D.this isn't Bourbon Street..
