Istanbul's Old City certainly has its charms, but you'll find no more glamorous neighborhood than Nisantasi, with its Parisian-style cafés, recession-be-damned boutiques, and now a suitably posh hotel. An integration of two buildings, the Park Hyatt-Maçka Palas takes its name from the older wing. The 1922 neoclassical building houses all 90 guest rooms, each supremely comfortable and adorned with Art Deco details. The bathrooms may be the most tricked out in Turkey: If the steam shower doesn't cure your jet lag, a color-therapy session in the soaking tub surely will. The newer sectiona converted car showroomhas a cushy sundeck, an outdoor lap pool, a wine bar, and the hotel's two eateries. Truth be told, the lobby café feels somewhat stuffy. More fun is the American-style steak house and, opening later this month, the poolside bar. Need help navigating off property? The helpful staff won't steer you wrong.
When to go: From April through October to take advantage of the terrace.
Which room to book: The Deluxe rooms that overlook the former Italian embassy and a sliver of the Bosphorus.
