Just north of town, in the rustic "suburb" of Tesuque, this new resort from the team behind Napa Valley's Auberge du Soleil gives visitors a taste of the wildstars in the night sky, the yelp of coyoteswhile catering to every urban need. That means a superb restaurant (Terra), an outpost of one of Santa Fe's most influential galleries, and a spa that melds herbal rituals and beauty treatments. More subtly, it means assured service, radiant heating under the polished-concrete floors, and a bottle of the excellent local Gruet sparkling wine. Set amid rolling hills, the 65 casitas are Southwestern minimalist: pine ceiling beams, wood-burning fireplaces, a single black-and-white Native American basket hung above the soaking tub. The resort's one aesthetic weakness is the central parking lot, which is visible from the sprawling pool and from most rooms.
