Inside the futuristic Opposite House, designed by Japanese architect Kengo Kuma, Bei is an appealing alternative to the city's Peking duck houses. Here, Chef Max Levy, who apprenticed in sushi bars across New York and Japan, creates pristine dishes such as spiny lobster marinated in shaoxing wine and roasted duck breast with purple potato. Not surprisingly, the sushi is top-notch, as are creative "b sides" like fried pork belly with fermented tofu.
Tip: Bring a group and book one of the ultra-sleek and secluded dark-wood-paneled private rooms (prix fixe, $44$73).
