Since opening in 2004, chef April Bloomfield's Spotted Pig has launched a thousand gastro-pub imitators. Now her much-anticipated follow-up turns from swine to seafood. At John Dory, the decor verges on kitsch, with sardines embedded in the Lucite bar, mirrors framed in seashells, and a huge tank of tropical fish. Bloomfield's dishes are showstoppers, from grilled octopus topped with shaved fennel and bottarga to Dungeness crab seasoned with lots of cracked black pepper and scallions. On the side, roasted sweet potatoes are crowned with a touch of marrow.
Tip: Don't miss the English treacle pudding for two, served with a boatful of heavy cream (entrées, $24$50).
