Smoked herring and lingonberries are all well and good, but Norwegian epicures are thinking Far East these days. Madu, at Oslo's brand-new Grims Grenka hotel, mixes Asian flavors and indigenous ingredients. The city's young and fabulous fill the long communal tables in the dimly lit space, washing down Cantonese elk puffs with spicy chili pepper martinis, and feasting on creative pairings like reindeer fillet with pomegranate and soft-shell crab with wasabi and watermelon. At the end, the most surprising aspect of Madu is its reasonable prices—a saving grace in the world's second most expensive city.
Tip: Finish with the Grand Dessert, a painterly composition of Japanese ice creams, parfaits, and exotically flavored crème brulées. (entrées, $9–$85).
