The Baltimore suburbs are now a gastronomic destination, thanks to chef Spike Gjerde's new Woodberry Kitchen. Gjerde and his wife, Amy, teamed up with local wine guru Nelson Carey to transform a nineteenth-century foundry into a warm space with rough stone floors, a wood-burning oven, and a lofty ceiling. The market-driven, mostly New American menu ranges from addictive snacks like sea saltdusted popcorn and deviled eggs to a hearty rib-eye with cheddar potato gratin, as well as plenty of locally sourced oysters served on ice and in various roasted guises.
Tip: Try the Headless Horseman cocktail, made with Maker's Mark bourbon, spiced pumpkin syrup, and citrus, and served in a copper mug (entrées, $15$31).
