It's not often that you see spa-goers whip out their digital cameras, but the vast relaxation area of Philippe Starck's Icon Brickell spa at the Viceroy—which resembles a flooded library with bookshelves, fireplaces, hot and cold sunken marble baths, and a deep sofa made for sprawling, all topped by a whopping neon-yellow chandelier—is so spectacular that you can't blame them. Locker rooms feature a simple sauna and a steam room so thick with vapor that it recalls artist Antony Gormley's Blind Light installation, and they are decorated with supersized black-and-white retro sporting prints and are dominated by a square marble table decked with lotions and potions. Treatments take place in serene oval rooms surrounded by white curtains—we loved the intense yet gentle 90-minute Iconic facial, with two exfoliations and two masks, the second collagen delivered through a papier-mâché–like shroud.
