Like the Fontainebleau itself, the Lapis spa came with a good deal of hype as a $50 million, 40,000-square-foot extravaganza with 30 treatment rooms, a multitude of pools, and a 35-foot rain tunnel. The reality is less razzle-dazzle yet impressive, with three floors of light-filled rooms in white stone and pale woods. Give yourself time to experience the amenities (we liked the mineral water jet pool with red seaweed extract and heated hammam benches). The Tracie Martyn facial is the resort's centerpiece, with an A-list of devotees like Kate Winslet and Diane von Furstenberg. The light massage combined with a series of electrical currents produces a mini face-lift that does seem to make skin more firm and youthfulfitting, since appearance is everything in Miami.
