The Upper East Side grande dame hotel remained faithful to its Art Deco roots with the decor of its petite new jewel-box Rosewood Spa. The chandelier-spangled space has a shades-of-gray palette, with paneled walls, velvet sofas, black-and-white Kenzo Izu portraits, and an extravagant platinum-tiled mosaic tunnel leading to five crepuscular treatment rooms. Treatments are lavish and intensive—and at $195 for a 60-minute massage, they should be; even your ears are given a serious sloughing during the Carlyle Signature Ritual, which uses an array of Sisley products and an arsenal of apparatuses, including a mini suction device to smooth wrinkles. Amenities are limited to a steam room in the men's and women's glossy white changing areas, and there's an Yves Durif hair salon for that post-buffing blowout.
