A stream dotted with stone steps leads to four high-ceilinged cottages with leafy views at this hillside spa at the High Resort. The simple signature 90-minute Veranda Therapy is recommended: A gentle Thai massage using long strokes and stretching, it is thankfully devoid of fancy techniques and exotic aromas, with a just-audible sound track of piano and string tunes. Time your treatment to end at around 6 p.m., when the sun's fiery orb slips behind north Thailand's tree-covered hills, a view best enjoyed over tea, sprawled on a cushy white sofa facing the valley.
