Evason Ma'In Hot Springs & Six Senses Spa, Madaba, Jordan
What: Set 865 feet below sea level in a richly colored limestone canyon, this spa resort offers facials with Dubai's Shiffa rose products and Jordan's Rivage brand emollients, and massages and body treatments using medicinal wild herbs, dates, olive oils, and Dead Sea salts.
The look: Four exterior domes recall a Jordanian desert palace; inside, ten treatment rooms have the minimalist feel and sound of a Japanese ryokan and face a small outdoor pool. The water reaches near boiling in an adjacent cave, serving as a natural sauna.
Who goes: Weekending locals from Amman who lounge on the oversized outdoor daybeds; sportive guests go on mountain hikes with the resort's geologist.
The treatment: The gentle 90-minute Olive Grove Scrub uses finely ground pits to buff the skin, followed by a massage with olive oil enhanced with your choice of scent.
P.S.: Female therapists are oversubscribed: Book before you arrive (massages, $87-$92).
