What: A hillside spa at the W Retreat Koh Samui, overlooking the Gulf of Thailand. The menu has Dermalogica facials, as well as a "Thaimazcal," a mashup of a traditional Mexican sweat-lodge ritual and local herbs.

The look: Sci-fi spa colony—white pods perched on stilts, surrounded by lush greenery. (Less sleek: the rooms' goofy names such as Thaim Out.)

Who goes: Samui regulars seeking the latest spa thrills and Emiratis in need of tropical hydration (the resort is heavily promoted in Dubai).

The treatment: The CocoNuts About You body scrub exfoliates with ground rice, then smoothes with a coconut-butter massage. Result: silky skin and loose limbs without a whiff of umbrella drink.

P.S.: Massage therapists are more skilled in Thai techniques than in deep-tissue work.
