WHEN TO GO
Summer is the season to come here, of course—not only for the weather, but because a great many hotels and restaurants are seasonal. In July, and especially August, every room, every table, every yacht mooring is full. It's great for the eternal sport of people-watching, but bad in every other respect, including extra peril when negotiating the Amalfi Drive—that, or stopped traffic.
HOW TO GET THERE
The closest airport is Naples Capodichino International Airport (NAP), about 40 miles northwest of Amalfi. By train, you can travel from Rome to Naples, then take the scenic Circumvesuviana to Sorrento. A hydrofoil service also connects Naples with Sorrento.
