1. If you love to cook, rent a villa. Half the fun of being there was hunting for and sampling local food and wine. We had a lovely, convenient and totally private apartment with a spectacular view for far less than we would have had to pay for a hotel. 2. Don't drive if you don't have to. We had a car but found it (a) hard to park, (b) stressful to drive on windy narrow roads, and (3) much more enjoyable to walk or take public transportation, which was cheap and easy. 3. Take comfortable shoes and walk as much as possible. There is so much to see and do on foot that you miss if you drive. We found lovely architecture, gardens, restraurants, shopping, and neighbors, all on foot. Beware the stairs - there are lots of them. The bright side is that you won't gain any weight if you walk everywhere! 4. Don't take more stuff than you need. Lugging big suitcases around was a pain. Now I take no more than I can fit in a carry-on. report a problem
