If you're looking for a secluded hamlet to steal away to in Amsterdam, look no further than Steel, a boutique single suite Bed and Breakfast in the city's old centre. Converted from an old warehouse, the studio suite boasts a bedroom, kitchen, dining area, living area with flat screen TV and bathroom with separate shower and glowing red soaking tub. Decorated in high Dutch modernist design, the suite is run by a brother and sister duo who are both proprietors and concierge. The hotel is nestled amongst hip boutiques, design shops and cafes. During a recent stay there, I ate a fresh breakfast overlooking the canals every morning at Puccini across the street. Next door to that is Puccini Bomboni, an artisinal shop featuring the best handmade chocolates I've ever tasted (I highly recommend the Honey Truffle)--far better than anything I tasted anywhere else including the famous chocolatiers of Belgium. You won't go wrong staying at Steel and enjoying everything its neighborhood has to offer. report a problem
