While Siem Reap was once as sedate as the nearby temples of Angkor are serene, the town now stays up school-night late. Most of the pubs are clustered around the Old Market and begin humming in the evening with tales of temples toured. At sundown, aptly named Pub Street closes to cars and motorcycles, and pushcart vendors, many of whom are war-time amputees, move in to hawk knockoff guidebooks and T-shirts. With the exception of weekends, most bars close before midnight, although there are several wee-hours spots, like Laundry Bar and Zone One.
