We were at Malliouhana in Nov-08. Facilities are very tired and management is squeezing every dollar from the property. Staff is unfriendly and any problems will not be solved. The most common answer “That’s how things are done in Anguilla.”
Our party had both Honeymoon Suite and Pool Suite for 5 days. Upon our arrival there was no greeting package – No Champagne/flowers/fruit plate. Honeymoon Suite was dirty, chandeliers broken, no coffee maker, TV or audio. In Pool Suite there was a broken audio system that could not be fixed and a “fake jacuzzi.” Steps leading to the beach were dirty and covered with leaves. That was cleaned only after multiple requests. Beach activities: volleyball – no net, waterskiing – the captain was either taking a long lunch break or it was time for him to leave. The hotel most likely will recommends you an outside restaurant. Their favorite is Mango’s. It’s a very expensive diner type of food. If you have any problems with the bill at Mango’s Malliouhana will make sure they help Mango’s boys to get to your room at the hotel to shake money from you. If that happens to you do not bother asking the staff for contact numbers of US Consulate as they simply will say NO with a smile. Of course, at the check out erroneous charges on your bill are to be expected.
The only bright spot of our experience at Malliouhana was Michael Rostang Restaurant. The food was excellent, service was fast and flawless. Staff was very friendly and helpful. However, we understand the restaurant is managed separately from the hotel.
We fell in love with Anguilla after visiting the island several times and staying at Cap Juluca. Natural beauty, top class service and friendly people all made us want to come back. After our experience at Malliouhana we not only will not be back to Malliouhana, but also to Anguilla any time soon. This is very unfortunate as the location is naturally beautiful. If you really like to visit Anguilla and enjoy the natural beauty and top service then stay at Cap Juluca for true luxury.
