Antwerp restaurants

Antwerp isn't lauded with as many Michelin stars as Bruges, and it lacks the international panache and grandiose flair of Brussels, but it does have a superb and varied dining scene and some of the best restaurant value in Western Europe. Avoid the glut of stuffy old-school restaurants that offer lofty meals with prices to match and instead opt for its midrange venues, which are half the price and just as good. Though traditional Flemish dishes like vol-au-vent (creamed chicken atop a puff pastry shell), vlaamse stovery (beef stew simmered in beer), waterzooi (fresh fish soup with cream and vegetables), and gaufres à la citrouille (pumpkin waffles made with mixed vegetable batter and rum) are incredibly tasty, don't miss out on the city's great ethnic eats, such as Turkish, Thai, and Malaysian.
