If you're looking for an original souvenir, there's no better place to shop than Antwerp: You'll find some of the finest diamond dealers and chocolate shops in the world, flea markets and a weekly auction held on a 16th-century square, and shops with designer overstock and vintage castoffs. And then there's the Antwerp Six—Ann Demeulemeester, Marina Yee, Dries Van Noten, Walter Van Beirendonck, Dirk Van Saene, and Dirk Bikkembergs—a group of highly influential fashion designers whose distinctive collections put the city on the world fashion map in the mid-'80s. They all graduated from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, as did a second generation of designers including Véronique Branquinho, Martin Margiela, and Raf Simons.
