Aruba + Bonaire + Curaçao hotels

Aruba, Bonaire, and Curaçao all have their own personality, and that is defined most easily by the islands' hotels. Aruba, which hitched its star to the mass-tourism market, has the largest room inventory and greatest number of brand-name innkeepers, including Hyatt, Marriott, and Radisson, which all have resorts along Palm Beach on the island's northwest coast, the designated high-rise region. Nearby Eagle Beach holds low-rise boutique hotels like Bucuti. Curaçao counts a few chain hotels in the Willemstad vicinity, but the best properties are locally owned, such as the Avila and the Hotel Kura Hulanda. They cater to the European market and are very good value, often including kitchenettes, a handy feature for tourists staying more than a few days. Development is picking up on the island, including a 350-room Hyatt Regency opening on the southern section of the island as part of the Santa Barbara Plantation, a planned community with vacation rentals, a casino, and a Pete Dye-designed golf course. It will be the first new hotel built on Curaçao since 1992. With a handful of exceptions, Bonaire accommodation targets hard-core divers: casual rooms with Florida-condo decor, kitchens for rustling up carbo-load meals, and balconies for drying gear and wetsuits. Hotels like Captain Don's Habitat line the western, or leeward, coast. A few have small beaches and they all have dive shops.
