Concierge.com's insider take:
When the Viceroy opened its doors in November 2009, it marked the luxury brand's first foray into ski country. It hasn't disappointed. The 173-room lodge is right off the Assay Hill run and fits neatly into a category of lodging severely lacking at Snowmass—luxury digs. Unlike sister resort Aspen, Snowmass has been slow to build its village and amenities, but the Viceroy is a stunning start. The modern rooms and suites are wanting for nothing, with studios to four-bedrooms in varying configurations to accommodate all sizes of groups and families. Interior-design insider Jean-Michel Gathy led the design efforts, and the result is sleek, modern spaces that remain warm and inviting, like a ski hotel should be. The hotel's restaurant, Eight K, with a beautiful 87-foot-long glass bar, wins fans with chef de cuisine Will Nolan's mildly Southern take on Colorado comfort food, such as his crawfish hush puppies and cane-syrup-glazed pork chops. After the ski day, the heated outdoor pool and hot tubs have a bird's-eye view of the slopes and an after-hour café and bar, Nest, to handle the care and feeding of après-skiers. The 7,000-square-foot Viceroy Spa might not be the biggest, but it's arguably one of the best in the valley, a Gathy-designed palace inspired by Native American traditions and rituals.—by Samantha Berman
