The truly avant-garde—such as the Rebecca Camhi Gallery, a contemporary-art pioneer when it opened in this once rundown working-class neighborhood in 1995—have moved on, perhaps deciding that its now trendy status makes Psirri no longer bohemian enough. Or more likely, the rents have gotten too high. Still, if you are a visitor, you'll probably find that the vibe here, amid happening new bars, ouzeries, cafés, and restaurants, most of which open only at night, makes it as far out on the edge of the Athens scene as you really care to be. Galleries to gaze at include A.Antonopoulou.Art, The Breeder, and Unlimited Gallery (30-210-331-4375). As for nightspots, to contrast old and new Psirri, drop into Rebekka, one of the last traditional kafeneions of the neighborhood, then mix with the eclectic crowd to the DJ sounds at Soul.
