For anyone looking for a quality, top of line experience on the Great Barrier Reef, I highly recommend Ocean Spirit Cruises (http://www.oceanspirit.com.au/). My family and I booked a one day trip to Michaelmas Cay and had a fantastic time! The crew was helpful, encouraging, and super friendly. We were first time scuba divers and they explained the basics very well so that we felt comfortable going on our first dive. We also happened to be there in late May, which helped because it was the off-season and the boat wasn't crowded at all. We had our pick of any activity we wanted. These included scuba diving, snorkeling, and going out on a small boat with a clear bottom to view the reef. We saw breathtaking coral, all kinds of fish, and even a hawk-billed turtle (within arms length). This was a once in a lifetime experience! Even the food was delicious aboard our ship. I can't say enough good things about Ocean Spirit. This was one of THE most memorable things we did on a 2-week trip across Australia. report a problemPosted on: August 26, 2009 at 2:25PM
Don't take a chance on the Box jellyfish. Rent a nylon suit for US$5 - you'll look like a blue smurf, but be protected from potentially fatal stings!
