Baja California hotels
Celebrities frequently hide out in Los Cabos, though it's not much of a hideout with half of LA around. The resorts blend Southern California and Mexico style in a hybrid some call "Newport Beach South" and offer all the gourmet cuisine, ethereal spas, and high-style design a weary movie exec or vacationing family (with plenty of discretionary income) could desire. Average room rates hover above $300, and it's only getting pricier: rates will start at close to $1,000 a night at the Capella Pedregal Resort and Spa, scheduled to open in November 2008. However, the rest of Baja shuns pretension, and low-key resorts claim prime vistas along both coastlines. Closer to the border with California, condos and vacation villas are gobbling up the coastline, and hotels cater to weekend guests seeking either bawdy revelry or total serenity.
