Want to visit Mexico and not a resort?

Last winter we had a wonderful experience with our vacation in Mexico. Instead of the usual five star resort, we booked into Los Patio Hotel in Cabo. This was because our resort was closed due to a strike and we were left without accommodations less than 24 hours before arrival. Yikes! While the hotel wasn't luxurious, we had a great time. Decent, clean room and bath, large balcony with hammock, nice pool area (small, but pleasant), gracious staff and good food. We were out each day exploring. We caught the local worker's bus from front of hotel and for 50 cents went into Cabo San Lucas each day. One day we took local bus to main bus terminal where we boarded the Mexican Greyhound for a day trip to Todos Santos for $6.00 per person and an hour ride. We travel to experience the country, people and culture and are open to whatever comes our way. we understand it is not "home", but then if that is your expectation, stay home and you won't be disappointed, but neither will you come back home with memories of great experiences. So if you are looking for something different instead of wrestling with other vacationers for a poolside lounge chair, day after day, give this a try. A couple excellent restaurants were Peacock's (fabulous Caesar salad) in Cabo San Lucas and Cafe Santa Fe in Todos Santos. The cafe has a courtyard adorned with ferns, hibiscus and bougainvillea. On the other end of Cabo in San Jose we recommend the Tropicana and LaPanga restaurants. Both excellent. report a problem
