Concierge.com's insider take:
Located down a long, secluded lane at the rugged northern tip of Menorca, this mansion nestles in a vast swath of ancient woodland. Dating back to 1777, the hotel has had a sympathetic restoration, with lots of original frills, such as the wrought-iron chandeliers, tiled floors, and elaborate cornicing, preserved. The antique-heavy bedrooms can feel a little austere, but many have private terraces with dream views over the distant rooftops of Ciutadella (Menorca's second, and many say prettier, city), glass-flat plains, and a big blue bay. Outside, a good-sized pool and plentiful sun loungers are perfect for long lazy days before heading into the town for dinneror do as local foodies do, and linger over a gin and tonic in the comfortably cozy lounge and cocktail bar, and eat at Sant Ignasi's excellent restaurant (try the red mullet fried in olive oil, served with a salad of peppers, tomatoes, zucchini and potatoes).
Closed December 10 to January 10. Restaurant closed October through March.
