Concierge.com's insider take:
Halfway along the island's northwest coast, the idyllic village of Deià has had more than its fair share of attention, thanks to longtime resident Robert Graves, the late poet-novelist. The immeasurable dose of culture chic he injected has by no means ruined the place, but it does continue to attract the throngs. And so has this grand retreat set in one 16th- and one 17th-century manor house on the edge of the village. The 67 rooms are gorgeously understated, with clay-tiled or carpeted floors, rustic local antiques, white slip-covered chairs, and wooden louvered shutters and beamed ceilings. A few suites include private terraces and pools. In August 2007, they will unveil eight new Tramuntana Suites, built above the hotel's spa, with views of the mountains and the village of Deià. Each suite will also have a private garden and private plunge pool. There are three restaurants (one open only in the summer), including the dressy El Olivo. The hotel also offers occasional recitals to take advantage of its rare 1887 Steinway grand. The nearest beach, by the way, at Lluc Alcari, is a few minutes' walk down a mountain path.
