As the Casco Antiguo (Palma's old quarter) continues its gentrification, so the sleeping options become ever better. The Tres offers slick, high-quality, and comfortable accommodation, with 41 rooms ranging from good-sized singles with queen beds, through various spacious double options (some with terraces), to some pretty fabulous suites (the Grand Suite has a private roof terrace and hot tub). Decor is dazzling white with cowhide-covered furniture and rather erotic black-and-white photographs of various lady parts above the beds (not everyone's cup of tea, but subtle enough). The central courtyard is a lovely place to sit with coffee in the mornings, while the roof terrace (which also has a fun plunge pool), with views over Palma and the cathedral spires, offers a more dynamic option for an evening cocktail. There's a bistro with a light menu, open from noon to 10:30 p.m. every day, serving basic fare such as hamburgers, club sandwiches, salads, and desserts. It's also where you'll get a hearty breakfast buffet in the morning. But as you're surrounded by Palma's hottest restaurants and tapas bars, you're well catered for if you're looking for something more upmarket.

From the editors of Condé Nast Traveler:
Who knew that Scandinavian design could look so terrific under the full-strength Mediterranean sun? The clean, modern decor of this 41-room Swedish-owned hotel in the Old Town of Palma stands up to major rays, thanks to dark-blond streamlined furniture, ponyskin-covered ottomans, mocha-limestone bathrooms, and a sublime rooftop terrace with teak decking, a plunge pool, chaise longues, and drop-dead views of Palma's cathedral. Thoughtful details include heated towel holders, CD/DVD players, a tasty room-service menu, a superb breakfast buffet, a sauna, and a bar/lounge with books and a free Internet station. The stylish multilingual staff are charming, and the location on a quiet pedestrian street is perfect.—2005 Hot List
