The burlesque houses of "The Block" are long gone, but Baltimore still knows how to party. One mile east of the Inner Harbor, Fells Point offers everything from gourmet draft-beer pubs at Max's Taphouse to duckpin bowling, a local variation that uses smaller balls and pins. Slightly more upscale diversions, such as the James Joyce Pub, can be found in Harbor East, a former warehouse district now dotted with restaurants. And south of the Inner Harbor, gentrifying Federal Hill holds friendly neighborhood restaurant/bars such as Pub Dog. The postcollege crowd hits Fells Point after dinner and stays until last call, while Federal Hill gets busy after work. Wherever you go, don't expect such affectations as doormen and velvet cordons.
