A little charmer brimming with potted palms, colorful tiled floors, and Moroccan textiles, the eight-room Bonic is the sort of B&B you would expect to see in the south of Spain. Except here it is, on the third floor (with elevator) of an 18th-century mansion just off La Rambla. The Portuguese owner, Fernando de Barros Ferreira, is a personable and energetic host who converted the apartment to a guesthouse as a labor of love. The guest rooms are all brightly painted in various bold colors, and there are three bathrooms (shared between guests), so visiting the Bonic feels more like staying in a private home. This is particularly true in the mornings, when guests gather in the sunny gallery for a breakfast of fruit and local charcuterie while Fernando regales all with his insider knowledge of the city.—Suzanne Wales
