A joint venture between the famous Bagués family of jewelers and a local hotel group created this 31-room boutique property on the site of the former Bagués flagship on La Rambla. Drawing on the brand's Modernista heritage (its craftsmen forged the floral, feminine style of Art Nouveau jewelry), the hotel is awash in jewel colors, gold leaf, and myriad textures yet retains a contemporary—if theatrical—air. What the guest rooms lack in size, they more than make up for in comfort, with plump beds swathed in damask, oversize headboards, and generous rain showers. The roof terrace, with its pint-size lap pool, is adorable and within touching distance of the 17th-century Bethlehem Church next door. The mezzanine floor accommodates a small museum of the work of Masriera, the ingenious jeweler famous for the shimmering enamel jewels of the Art Nouveau era.—Suzanne Wales
