Gone are the days when Beijing nightlife fans gazed enviously at the bright lights of Shanghai. Today, the capital's after-dark scene is buzzing with New China energy, ambition, and financial investment. Less showy, noticeably cheaper, and substantially more creative than Shanghai's, Beijing's bar and club scene is evolving fast. Several innovative new openings in 2008, timed to the Olympics, brought nightlife here to a new level.
