When visiting Belize, it is best to split your time between the 'jungle' side of San Ignacio and the 'beach' side of Ambergris Caye. This gives you the best of both worlds and the two experiences are totally different. I suggest going to San Ignacio first for the adventures such as the cave trips, Mayan ruins, perhaps a day trip to Tikal, Guatemala. I recommend Midas Resort if you want a real flavor of the area. Family- run, cute, comfortable cabins in a jungle-like location just a few minutes walk to town. More local and realistic than high-end resorts where you meet just other tourists. Then, to Ambergris Caye where you can rest up at the beach and sun, swim, dive and snorkel. When in Ambergris Caye, if you are renting a house or condo and will be food shopping, beware the high prices at the supermarket. Smaller groceries and roadside vegetable/fruit stands offer better prices. Rent a golf cart to get around for at least one day. Otherwise, taxis are plentiful and not too pricey. report a problem
