Belize restaurants

Belizean food is anything but monolithic, with influences that include Mayan, Guatemalan, Mexican, Garifuna (descendants of African slaves), Lebanese, Chinese, and "other." So you'll find rice and beans aplenty, but don't be surprised if this dish is flavored with coconut milk and ginger (a Caribbean thing), or listed on a menu that also offers pita and hummus—or tostadas, for that matter. Visitors tend to eat in hotels for the simple reason that Belizean jungle lodges and beach resorts are often miles from anything else, but you'll find a greater variety of restaurants in San Pedro.
