HOW TO GET THERE
As no cruise ships or major airlines serve Bequia, you have to use a local air carrier, ferry boat service, or—for the deep-pocketed—private charter. SVG Air flies from St. Vincent and Barbados, as well as from different destinations if you charter a private jet (784-457-5124; www.svgair.com). Trans Island Air 2000 flies from Barbados (246-418-1650; www.tia2000.com), as does Mustique Airways, and from additional destinations, if you charter a private jet (784-458 4380; www.mustique.com). Alternatively, you can fly into St. Vincent and connect to the scheduled ferry service to Bequia. This one-hour journey departs from St. Vincent eight times daily on weekdays (six on Saturdays, four on Sundays) and returns from Bequia seven times daily on weekdays (four on the weekend). Details: www.bequia.net/ferrysvcs.htm.
GETTING AROUND
There are three main ways to get around Bequia: taxi, rental car, or water taxi. Gideon Taxi offers rides to and from the airport and the major beaches; operating under the name Bequia Jeep Rentals, it also rents a fleet of Suzuki Jeeps (784-458-3760; www.bequiajeeprentals.com). Noel's Taxi is another one-stop option for off-road rentals during your stay (784-458-3064; www.bequia.net/noelstaxi/index.htm). If you are traveling during the high season (December through April), be sure to book your vehicle well in advance. Water taxis are an easy and fun way to get from central Admiralty Bay to major island spots such as Lower Bay and Princess Margaret Bay. Most water taxis can easily be found on the docks in front of hotels such as Frangipani or the Gingerbread.
