Owned by Culinary Institute of America graduate Owen Belmar, formerly of the nearby ultraluxe Petit St. Vincent resort, Le Petit Jardin is considered one of the island's premier dining rooms. Located in a varnished wooden house with a lovely garden in the center of Port Elizabeth, the place sticks fairly faithfully to French standards, with highlights such as escargot spiced with anise, seafood crepes, consommé with poached eggs, and lamb with mint butter. These classics are joined by Caribbean-influenced additions, including sautéed shrimp in a coconut cream sauce and fresh fish paired with saffron rice, curry, and bananas.
