Bermuda restaurants

As in the rest of the world, globalization has finally arrived at Bermuda's dinner table. With its rich British history, Bermuda has always loved its lamb chops and mashed potatoes for dinner, or a heavy crock of shepherd's pie at the pub. Recently, however, a flurry of sushi places have opened, in keeping with the island's current love of all things Japanese, from hand rolls to lanterns to shiatsu. Italian and French restaurants abound in Bermuda, as do a plethora of places with general "Mediterranean" menus featuring pasta, meats, and seafood. When it comes to more exotic choices such as Thai, Vietnamese, or Brazilian, you're pretty much out of luck…but you never know what may open next week.

Traditionally Bermuda has been known for highly organized dining arrangements, such as eating at your hotel on a food plan, or dining with fellow guests at an assigned table so that you all might mix and mingle. Formal attire was not only suggested but required. You may still find more casual vestiges of these customs at classic hotels like Cambridge Beaches, where dress is called "smart." For the most part, though, you can sit down—at your own table—in khaki pants and a collar shirt or a sundress. Jeans, T-shirts, sneakers, and flip-flops, however, are not looked upon kindly, so gussy up a bit before going out.
