Newbury Street, a narrow one-way road beginning at the Public Garden, is synonymous with Boston shopping. While a few national chains (Valentino, Cartier, H&M, American Eagle) have moved in, many of Newbury's 150-plus clothing boutiques, art galleries, day spas, restaurants, and cafés remain independently owned. On nearby Charles Street, a historic redbrick lane, hip designer boutiques have joined sophisticated antique shops at the base of swanky Beacon Hill.
