British Virgin Islands restaurants

The "British" in the BVI does not mean that you'll find bangers and mash alongside conch fritters on most menus (fish-and-chips, yes, though you're better off ordering grilled fish with peas 'n' rice). The well-off tourists that ply these blue waters support a robust dining scene, with some excellent Continental and Italian eateries complementing the West Indian–inspired fare. Foodies not staying aboard a boat will want to book hotels on Tortola and Virgin Gorda for their proximity to the BVI's best restaurants, such as Sugar Mill, Brandywine, and Biras Creek restaurant.

If you are chartering—especially in high season—get tuned into the mad rush of VHF radio calls for reservations each afternoon as boats race for prime moorings near popular restaurants. In addition to the fine dining, there are plenty of barefoot barbecue places such as Foxy's, Cooper Island Beach Club, and Cow Wreck Beach Bar. These spots generally trade in fresh-fish sandwiches and fritters. No matter what style of restaurant you choose, don't pass up Anegada lobster when it's in season (November through May).
